Unexpected Death of 102 Year-Old Man Leaves Family Searching For Answers

LOUISTON, IN – When Frank Mughden awoke on Saturday morning, the usual chipper greeting he receives from his 102 year-old grandfather was nowhere to be heard.  He thought this was odd, but went about his morning routine brewing the coffee and letting the dog out.  The sight that he found when he wandered back to Weldon “Gramps” Mughden’s room will haunt him forever.

“He was just laying there in his bed all comfortable and peaceful looking, but completely cold…and dead.”

When EMS arrived, they confirmed the Mughden family’s darkest fears; their dear “Gramps,” the proud patriarch of 18 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren, veteran of WWII and the Korean conflict, nicknamed the “Lion of Sangjinyoun Hill,” had died suddenly in his sleep.  While an autopsy, requested by the family, is in process, the Mughden clan searches for meaning and, most of all, for an explanation for this shocking turn of events.  Although it’s too early to say where the blame will land, the Mughdens say that they know deep down that someone will eventually be called to account for this travesty.

“Yesterday, he was playing checkers and cursing at the History Channel,” said Charles Mughden, self-appointed family spokesman.  Why, he just saw his family doctor two weeks ago and, would you believe it?  Dr. Flannergans said that everything looked fine!!!  He didn’t order any stress tests…no blood work or anything.  I can’t help thinking that there was something that that lazy shputz missed, because people don’t just up and die without any warning.  The whole family’s been talking it over and we’re probably going to sue him for negligence.”
